The checklist: six honest questions
- Is your hairline far enough back that working around it is more effort than it's worth?Cosmetic question, not a medical one — just how much you're fussing with it each morning.
- Do you actually hate the maintenance, or just today's haircut? One you can't walk back; the other grows out in a fortnight.
- What's your head shape like — any major dents or flat spots?A shave shows the skull. It's the one thing a shave can't soften.
- Have you got facial hair to balance it? A bare head and a bare face can wash out. Stubble or a beard anchors it.
- Are you up for the first-week reality?Sunburn, razor nicks, upkeep every couple of days. It's not zero-maintenance.
- How sure are you, 1 to 10? Under 8 — buzz first.
Buzz first. Almost always.
This is the single most useful line on the page: a number 1 or 2 buzz gets you 90% of the look, grows out in weeks, and tells you whether to go all the way to skin. Shaving straight to a razor is the one move you can't walk back for a while. Preview a buzz first.
Shaved vs buzzed: the actual difference
Buzzed
Keeps a shadow of hair. Softer, more forgiving, reversible. Less upkeep.
Shaved
Skin. Highest commitment, highest payoff when it lands, the most upkeep of the two.
Will it suit me? The honest test
Head shape is individual, and face-shape "rules" are weak guesses. The only reliable answer is seeing it on your head — with and without a beard. A preview is a direction to decide from, not a promise of the exact result.
When you're ready, see yourself shaved — or try a buzz first.
